The Rollins baseball team opens its 2019 season Friday, starting a three-game series with Lenoir-Rhyne at Alfond Stadium. The Tars will christen the new Harper-Shepherd Field, featuring an all-artificial turf infield, new bullpens and a covered batting cage. Fans will enjoy a new sound system and new roof on the stadium. Rollins is coming off a 20-29 season, but finished by winning four of its last six. The pitching staff has replaced last year's ace Brad Case (drafted 17th round, Pittsburgh Pirates) with a bevy of talented freshmen and transfers. Lenoir-Rhyne went 27-22 last season and list in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Championship. The Bears were picked sixth in the SAC preseason poll.
Tracking the Tars:
Picked tied for sixth in the Sunshine State Conference preseason poll, Rollins will look to get the 2019 season started on the right foot. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper recognized pitchers Cameron Enck (10.23 K/9innings last year) and Drew Daczkowski (transfer from High Point) on its preseason South Region Players to Watch list. The duo joins top returners Garrett Leonard (no hitter last season) and Whit Drennan (3.27 ERA) on the Tars pitching staff. At the plate, Rollins graduated its top-five hitters from a year ago and are led by returner Nick Santucci. Luke Riedy and Brendan Brundage will also be looked upon for production this year.
Tracking the Bears:
Lenoir-Rhyne starts the season at Winter Park and, like the Tars, will look for a positive start to 2019. Starer John Grigg was named to the All-SAC Preseason First Team after going 10-3 with a 3.89 ERA last season. First basemen Alex Reynolds landed on the Second Team, hitting .358 with 46 RBIs last season. The duo was named to the NCBWA Preseason All-Southeast Region Second Team. E.J. Ranel was named a Southeast Region Newcomer to Watch. The outfielder transferred from Chattahoochie Valley Community College an hit .458 with 20 home runs and 70 RBIs in 47 games.

Rollins continues its six-game home stand to start the season, welcoming West Florida to Winter Park Feb. 8-10 for a big South Region, three-game series. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, followed by a 1 p.m. game two start and noon finale on Sunday, Feb. 10.
