Tars Blank Lenoir-Rhyne to Start Season

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 1, 2019) – Cameron Enck tossed a one-hit gem and Jared Herron hit the first home run of the season as Rollins posted a 5-0 win over Lenoir-Rhyne Friday night. 

Enck struck out seven and allowed just one hit and one walk in seven innings of action. The senior didn't allow a runner past first base and ended his night retiring 17-straight. Anthony Trovoto threw the final two innings, scattering two hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

Devon Ortiz and Jack Gonzalez both went 1-3 with two runs scored to led the Tars offense. Herron blasted a two-run homer to dead center field with Kyle Hintz also knocking in a pair.

Jake Conroy took the loss for L-R, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk in five innings. Alex Reynolds, Caleb Beatty and Will Jones each had hits for the Bears.

Rollins got on the board in the fourth after Gonzalez was plunked and Herron smashed a 3-2 pitch well over 420 feet, clearing the center field wall.

The Tars loaded the bases in the sixth after Ortiz was hit by a pitch, Gonzalez singled and Herron drew a walk. Hintz was then hit in the left foot and earned the RBI to give Rollins a 3-0 lead. Cameron Meehan brought Gonzalez in with a RBI ground out to second.

Hintz then gave the Tars some insurance in the eighth, batting in Gonzalez with an RBI single to right.

Rollins and Lenoir-Rhyne will play the second of a three-game series on Saturday, February 2 with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Alfond Stadium. Fans can catch the action live on the Tars Sports Network at and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
