Lenoir-Rhyne Stifles Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 2, 2019) – Lenior-Rhyne jumped out to a 4-0 lead after seven and Rollins couldn't catch up as the Tars fell to the Bears 5-1 on Saturday. 

The loss evens the Tars record at 1-1 and sets up a rubber match with L-R (1-1) as the teams close the season-opening series on Sunday, February 3. First pitch is set for Noon at Alfond Stadium. 

Sam LaFontaine went 2-3 at the plate to lead the Tars. Nick Santucci was 1-2 and drew a pair of walks while Brendan Brundage, Jared Herron and Luke Reidy also had base hits. 

Drew Daczkowski took the loss, allowing four hits and two runs over four innings. The newcomer struck out seven. Jimmy Robbins and James Hoelle were both solid in relief. 

Leadoff hitter Grant Fuller hit 3-5 with an RBI and run scored for Lenior-Rhyne. Clayton Jeffries and Matthew Freeman had two hits apiece. 

Paul Hall picked up the win behind five scoreless innings, surrendering four hits with six strike outs and a walk. Nolan Flachofsky picked up the save. 

L-R scored first, plating two in the top of the third. Fuller scored Freeman on a fielder's choice and E.J. Ranel knocked in Will Jones with a sac fly later in the inning. 

The Bears added two more in the seventh when Ranel blasted a two-run homer to left center. 

Rollins got on the board in the eighth as Reidy scored on a LaFontaine single. 

Jeffries took the run back for Lenoir-Rhyne in the ninth with an RBI single that scored Fuller.
