WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 9, 2019) – Pitchers Drew Daczkowski and Jimmy Robbins held West Florida in check and Cameron Meehan left no doubt at the plate as Rollins picked up a 4-1 win over the Argos on Saturday.
The Tars improve to 4-1 with a third-straight win while UWF drops to 1-4.
Daczkowski was stellar in the start, scattering four hits and surrendering just one run with 10 strike outs in six innings of work. Robbins threw the last three innings and only allowed one baserunner, picking up the save.
Jack Gonzalez had a second-straight, three-hit game, going 3-3 with two runs scored to lead the Tars. Meehan went 1-3 with two RBIs on a towering home run to left in the sixth.
West Florida starter Tony Rossi allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings, taking the loss on the mound. Isaac Philips, Matthew Jones, Mat Sullivan and Dylan Menhennett each had base hits.
Rollins manufactured two runs in the second and went up 2-0 early. Gonzalez led off with a single and was followed by Meehan getting drilled by a pitch and Sam LaFontaine drawing a walk to load the bases. Eddie Ayala drove in Gonzalez on a sac fly and Joe Cosgrove brought in Meehan with a sac bunt.
UWF got on the board in the fifth on a Sullivan solo homer to left, cutting the Tars lead in half.
As the Tars pitching staff continued to work through the sixth, Gonzalez rapped a one-out single and Meehan cleared the bases with his first homer of the year, putting Rollins up 4-1.
Rollins allowed just one more baserunner the rest of the way and picked up the series win.
