Tars Complete Sweep of Falcons

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 17, 2019) – Rollins scored seven runs in the first two innings and its pitching staff allowed just three hits as the Tars beat Bentley 12-1 Sunday. 

The win gives Rollins (8-1) a second series sweep of the season and extends its winning streak to seven games. Bentley falls to 0-6 on the year. The Tars outscored the Falcons 34-8 during the weekend. 

Second baseman Sam LaFontaine highlighted the Tars bats, going 3-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs. He blasted his first homer of the year and third career to cap the big day.  Brendan Brundage went 3-6 with a run scored and RBI. Nick Santucci and Kyle Hintz both went 2-1 with two RBIs. Joe Crosgrove (2-5) and Luke Reidy (2-4) also had multi-hit games. 

Garrett Leonard picked up his first win of the year, allowing only one hit and no walks with six strikeouts in five innings of work. 

Llewellyn Jensen took the loss for Bentley, surrendering six runs on five hits in one inning. Max Troiani, Brandon Grover and Kyle Halloran had the hits for Bentley. 

Hintz started the scoring in the first with a two RBI double that scored Jack Gonzalez and Jared Herron

Rollins then scored five in the second to blow the game wide open. Brundage, Santucci, Herron, Gonzalez and Cameron Meehan all had RBIs in the inning. 

LaFontaine made it a 9-0 Tars lead in the fourth with a two RBI single to center field. He then really put the game out of reach in the sixth with a two-run blast over the right field wall, making it 11-0 Tars. Santucci plated LaFontaine in the eighth on a sacrifice top push the Tars advantage to 12-0. 

Bentley avoided the shutout with a run in the top of the ninth on a Grover RBI double to right-center. 

Rollins is back in action Feb. 22-24 at 2018 national runner-up Columbus State. First pitch for game one of the series is 4 p.m.  Feb. 22, followed by 1 p.m. starts on Feb. 23 and Feb. 24.  Fans not making the trip to Columbus, Georgia can watch the action live with links on RollinsSports.com.
