BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 1, 2019) – Rollins scored three runs in the first and never looked back, beating Lynn 4-2 in its Sunshine State Conference opener.
Cameron Enck picked up the win for the Tars (9-4, 1-0 SSC), scattering five hits and allowing two runs in 5.2 innings pitched. Whit Drennan came on in relief and earned a second save of the year, surrendering just one hit over the final 3.1 innings. The duo held Lynn's potent offense to just six total hits.
Nicholis Prather took the loss for Lynn (8-6, 1-3 SSC), allowing four runs on five hits in seven innings.
Shayne Fontana batted 2-4 with a run scored and Cal Bocchino went 1-4 with two RBI to lead the Fighting Knights.
After losing its last three, Rollins wasted no time establishing its presence on Friday. Nick Santucci and Jared Herron both singled in the first and Meehan provided the fireworks with a two-out blast over the left field wall, putting the Tars ahead 3-0.
Lynn came back and plated two in the third on a Bocchino two-RBI double.
Rollins was still up 3-2 in the sixth when Lynn loaded the bases with two out. Drennan came in for Enck and got out of the jam to preserve the lead.
The Tars added an insurance run in the eighth when Brenden Brundage scored off a Santucci ground out. Drennan put Lynn down in order in the bottom of the eight, and after a leadoff walk, got an strike out and double play to end the game.
