WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 7, 2019) – Rollins left 14 runners stranded and couldn't capitalize on opportunities late, falling to Assumption 7-3 Thursday night.
The Tars drop to 9-7 on the year while the Greyhounds improve to 7-2.
Leadoff hitter Brendan Brundage went 3-5 to lead the Tars bats with Cameron Meehan and Sam LaFontaine both hitting 2-5. Cameron Montgomery, Eddie Ayala and Luke Reidy each drove in a run. Rollins racked up 12 hits in the game.
Tate Stone-Frisina took the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits with six walks and four strikeouts in four innings. James Hoelle, Kyle Bachle, Kyle Kramer, Anthony Trovato and Ross Korosec also threw for the Tars. The Rollins staff combined for 11 walks, three hit batsmen and allowed 10 hits.
Cole Chudoba picked up the win for Assumption, allowing just two runs and nine hits in six innings of work. Manny PegueroMelo earned the save, throwing the final three innings surrendering one run.
Matt Lonardo went 2-5 with two RBI and three runs scored for the Hounds. Joe Michael batted 2-5 with an RBI.
Assumption jumped on the Tars early, scoring two runs in the third and another in the fifth off a Lonardo solo blast to take a 3-0 lead. The advantage ballooned to 5-0 in the sixth after back-to-back RBI doubles from Dillion Zona and Michael.
Montgomery got the Tars on the board in the sixth with an RBI single that scored Jack Gonzalez and later scored a run of his own off an Ayala double over the center fielder's head. Rollins pulled to within 5-3 in the seventh as Reidy drew a bases loaded walk that scored Cameron Meehan. The Tars left the bases loaded in the seventh and stranded six over the final three innings.
The Greyhounds got two insurance runs in the eighth and Rollins was unable to get another man across the plate.
