Tars Fall Short of Sharks Sweep

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 31, 2019) – After wins in the first two games of the series, Rollins went for the sweep of No. 23 Nova Southeastern, but came up short 8-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Tars had a three-game winning streak stopped and drop to 18-11, 6-6 Sunshine State Conference while NSU improves to 20-12, 10-8 SSC.

Luke Reidy went 1-2 with a run scored to lead the Tars. Brendan Brundage was 1-2 at the plate and drove in a run. Jack Gonzalez went 1-5 with a solo homer. Kyle Hintz, Luke Reidy and Jared Herron also had base knocks.

Garrett Leonard took the loss (2-1), throwing six innings with four strikeouts and allowing four runs. Ross Korosec and Anthony Trovato also had time on the mound.   

Christian Demby led NSU, going 2-4 with two RBIs. Christian Kuzemka went 2-5 and 2 RBIs. Matt Ornelas picked up his first win of the season, striking out two and allowing one run in five innings.

The Tars got behind in the first innings when Duncan Pastore scored on an error and Garrett Wolforth was plated on a Christian Demby sac fly. Rollins would committ four errors on the day.

Rollins got one back with Gonzalez' homer with two outs in the first. The Sharks then added runs in the second, third and seventh before putitg up a three spot in the eighth to put the Tars in a an 8-1 hole.

The final run the Tars scored was in the bottom of the 8th when Brendan Brundage singled to center field for Luke Reidy to score.

The teams will travel to Lakeland, Fla to Florida Southern for a three game series starting April 5 at 6 PM.
