MELBOURNE, Florida (January 22, 2018) – Rollins forward Sam Philpott was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. The honor is a second this season for the fifth-year senior.
A Noblesville, Indiana native, Philpott led Rollins to a 94-82 upset win over then 19th-ranked Barry on Saturday. He tallied 23 points and three rebounds in the game, shooting 9-of-11 from the field and hitting a pair of three-pointers.
Philpott has been on fire during the Tars current four-game winning streak and run to the top the Sunshine State Conference standings. He is averaging 24 points and 5.8 rebounds over the last two weeks, shooting 67 percent from the field and 85 percent at the free throw line.
On the season, Philpott is fifth in the SSC and leads Rollins with 21.0 points a game. He is second in the conference and ranks 16th nationally, shooting 62 percent from the field. His 150 total field goals stands as the 11th most in Division II.
Philpott is 17th on the Tars all-time scoring list with 1,379 points, surpassing Hall of Famer Eric Faber with his big game against Barry. His .588 career shooting percentage is the fourth-best in program history.
