WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 3, 2018) – Rollins men's basketball head coach Tom Klusman has named former standout guard Kevin Hogan as the Tars new assistant coach.
Klusman also announced longtime volunteer assistant Theo McWhite will be joining the staff on the bench for game days after spending the prevous four years in a support position.
"I'm very excited about Kevin joining the staff and Theo's elevated role," said Klusman, who is starting his 39th season at the helm of the program. "Kevin is one of the hardest working players we've ever had and will use his coaching experiences in Division I to innovate some of the things we do. Theo has done a great job with analytics the last few years and I'm glad to have him moving up to the bench this year."
A native of Pensacola, Hogan was part of the Tars program for five seasons and is currently 24th on the all-time scoring list with 1,295 career points. He is second all-time in program history with 270 made three-pointers and third in three-point percentage, hitting 44 percent from beyond the arc. Hogan was named SSC Honorable Mention his senior season in 2009.
Hogan was a part of two Sunshine State Conference regular season championship teams and won the 2006 SSC Tournament. Twice he led the Tars to the NCAA South Region Tournament. Hogan's teams posted a four-year record of 88-34, making him one of the winningest players in program history.
Hogan graduated from Rollins with a bachelor's degree in political science in 2007, before going on to earn his MBA in finance from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins in 2009.
Hogan's coaching stops include Florida A&M, Tallahassee Community College, William & Mary and Austin Peay. Coaching basketball at the collegiate level runs in the Hogan family as his father Don was also the head coach at the University of West Florida from 1993-2009.
McWhite was a standout guard for Klusman in the early 1980's and was twice named SSC Honorable Mention. He left Rollins as the all-time leader in steals and currently ranks sixth with 166. For the past four seasons, McWhite has provided the coaching staff with play analysis while assisting in scouting and player development.
Rollins begins its 2018-19 campaign Nov. 9-10 at the annual South Region Tip-off Challenge. The Tars will match up with Benedict to open the season and then meet Auburn-Montgomery the second day of the event, hosted by Florida Tech in Melbourne. Klusman will continue his chase of career win 700, currently sitting with a record of 693-407.
