MELBOURNE, Fla. (November 9, 2018) – Rollins held Benedict to just 28-percent shooting in the first half as the Tars posted a season-opening 72-60 in over the Tigers on Friday night.
Jakobi Bonner led four Tars scoring in double-figures with 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Daniel Loh scored 15 points while red-shirt freshman Hutton Yenor scored 13 off the bench in his first collegiate action. Connor Mckim tallied 12 points and six assists.
The victory gave Rollins head coach Tom Klusman career win No. 696 and inched the 39-year veteran closer to 700 career victories.
Kelvin Omojola was the top scorer for Benedict (0-1), posting 18 points off the bench. Romello Jones added 16 and Aaron Bryant scored 13.
Parker Davis used a steal and breakaway lay-up midway through the first half to cap an 8-0 Tars run and 18-12 lead. Christian Munson pushed the Rollins advantage to 33-23 with a three-pointer at the 3:57 mark as the Tars would go on to take a 35-25 advantage into the locker room.
Rollins twice went up by 13 points early in the second before the Tigers got as close as 47-44 with 9:58 to play. A Blake Admire free throw and Mckim three-pointer gave the Tars some breathing room and five-straight points by Yenor put the Tars comfortably ahead 58-47 with 6:29 left.
The Tigers would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Rollins outrebounded Benedict 40-28 and out-shot BC 48 percent to 35 percent.
