WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 23, 2019) – Rollins came back from 13 down in the second half, but couldn't hold on down the stretch and fell to Eckerd 70-62 on Senior Day.
Connor Mckim became the 41st member of the Rollins 1,000-point club with a three-pointer in the second half. The junior scored five points Saturday to hit the number exactly.
Drushaun McLaurn led Eckerd (18-8, 11-7 SSC) with 24 points and eight rebounds. Myron Hagins scored 12 and Shaquille Harris netted 10.
Rollins shot 42 percent in the game while EC hit 50 percent from the field and outrebounded the Tars 35-27.
Coming of an emotional senior day ceremony, Rollins fell into a 14-3 hole after eight minutes of play. A 9-0 run followed to get back to within two, but Eckerd push its lead back to double digits and put the Tars down 34-24 at intermission.
Rollins was sluggish coming out of the locker room and Eckerd pounced, grabbing a 52-40 lead with 11:52 to play. Yenor the caught fire and went on a solo 10-0 run as part of a 16-2 Tars spurt that put Rollins on top 56-54 with 8:03 left.
Eckerd answered and took a 64-58 lead with 3:18 to play. Mckim's milestone three-pointer was timely and cut the EC lead in half a minute later, but a McLaurn jumper and solid free throw shootin the waning moments kept the Tars from the Senior Day win.
Rollins closes its season on the road next week, starting with a trip to Melbourne to face Florida Tech on Wednesday, February 27. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. The season finale is set for Saturday, March 3 at Florida Southern.
