Rollins Comes Back for 76-71 Win over AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (November 9, 2019) – Down by double digits for most of the second half, Rollins used a late game push to post a 76-71 win over Auburn University-Montgomery in both team's season opener.

Jakobi Bonner scored 17 points in the second half and was clutch down the stretch on his way to a game-high 19 to lead Rollins (1-0). Brooks Cluxton filled the stat sheet with 15 points, eight rebounds and six blocks. Dayton Gumm was also in double figures with 14 points.

AUM (0-1) got 21 points off the bench from Stanley Davis while Darrion Taylor scored 19.

Rollins shot just 36 percent in the first half, but connected on 60 percent from the field after the break en route to a 50-point second half. The Warhawks hit 45 percent and outrebounded the Tars 36-31.

Both offenses were hampered from early-season jitters with the Tars trailing 16-15 after the first 10 minutes. Rollins was down as many as 32-20 late in the frame before heading to the locker room in a 32-26 hole.

Down by 11 with 14 to play, Chu Enechionyia drilled a long three-pointer to spark a 19-7 Tars run and got the visitors from Winter Park on top 59-55 with eight minutes to play. Cluxton did the heavy lifting during the spurt, scoring eight in the span.

AUM pulled even four minutes later and took a one-point lead on a Carlos Bell 3-point play. Stanley added to the lead with a breakaway dunk but was whistled for a taunting technical, swinging momentum back the Tars way. Bonner made one of two at the line and later tied the score at 69 with a jumper at the 1:35 mark.

After a Cluxton free throw got the Tars back on top,  Joshua Moore gave AUM a 71-70 lead with less than a minute to play.

Bonner drew a foul and calmly  hit two at the line to give the Tars a 72-71 lead with 21 ticks left. AUM was off the mark on their possession and both Gumm and Cluxton hit two at the free throw line to ice the game for the Tars.

Rollins is back in action on Saturday, November 9 in day two of the South Region Tip off, facing Benedict at 3 p.m. ET. Fans can listen to the action live on the Tars Sports Network at and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
