WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 19, 2019) – Jakobi Bonner continued his hot start to the year, posting a double-double and leading Rollins past the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez 81-53 on Tuesday.
Rollins snaps a two-game skid and improves to 3-2 on the year while Mayaguez falls to 0-4.
Ricardo Erans socred 13 to lead the Tarzans while Jeriel Torres netted 10.
Rollins shot 46 percent from the field while holding Mayaguez to just 32 percent. The Tars also went 19-of-25 at the free throw line while UPRM was just 1-of-5.
It took nearly four minutes of action for either team to score until a pair of Bonner free throws finally lit the scoreboard.
The Tarzans responded and held a 16-15 lead midway through the first. Bonner hit from deep to swing the advantage Rollins way and Dayton Gumm later made it a 30-20 Tars lead with a monster dunk at the 6:21 mark.
Rollins would later take a commanding 42-25 lead into the break on a Cade Long layup in the final seconds of the half.
The Tars left little doubt early in the second, pushing the lead to 23 with 17 minutes to play. The Tarzans closed to within 59-45 at the 11:45 mark, but an 11-0 Rollins run kept the visitors at arms length. Rollins would go on to lead by as many as 23 late in the game.
