LAKELAND, Fla. (February 10, 2019) – Ranked 18th in the nation after a very successful fall season, Rollins starts its spring championship season Monday at the Matlock Collegiate Classic.
The Tars played just three tournaments in the fall due to Hurricane Florence. The season started with a fourth-place finish at the 15-team Jay Jennison Cup and was followed by a sixth place at the TVA Credit Union Invitational. The Tars then posted a thrilling win at their own McDonough Cup and made a leap in the national rankings.
Florida Southern hosts the Matlock at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland. The tournament features 15 teams, including the top sixth-ranked schools in the nation. A total of nine nationally ranked teams will be in the field. No. 1 Barry, No. 2 Lynn and No. 3 Florida Tech highlight the field. No. 4 Saint Leo, No. 5 West Florida and No. 6 Florida Southern are also top contenders. Nova Southeastern (No. 10), Limestone (No. 13), Rollins (No. 18), Cal State Monterey Bay (RV), Georgia College (RV), Valdosta State (RV), Columbus State (RV), Eckerd and Montevallo round out the field.
Morgan Egloff leads the Tars into the Matlock, carrying a 71.89 stroke average after the fall. He won the TVA Credit Union Invitational, shooting an eight-under 208 (69-66-73). He was 10th at the McDonough Cup.
Trystan Perkins has a 72.33 stroke average for the Tars and led off his first season on the Tars squad with a tie for 11th at the Jay Jennison Cup. Will Hall (74.89 avg.), Mason Fox (74.67 avg.) and Justin Karlins (75.33 avg.) comprise the Rollins-five at the tournament.
The Tars tied for fifth at the Matlock last season, posting a 10-under score of 854. Sam Grindle was seventh, shooting eight-under.
Teams will play 36-holes on Monday, February 10 and then play a final round on Tuesday, February 11 to decide the winner. Fans can follow the action live stats at GolfStat.com.
