LAKELAND, Fla. (February 12, 2019) – Rollins shot a final round 299 Tuesday, but couldn't gain any ground on the field and finished 13th at the Florida Southern Matlock Collegiate Classic.
The 18th-ranked Tars closed the spring-season opening event with a 39-over score of 903 (296-308-299) and were just five-strokes out of a spot in the top-10. Lynn (-9) slipped past Barry (-7) by two strokes for the team title. West Florida was third at six-under.
Hosted at Lone Palm Golf Club, the tournament featured 10 schools ranked in the GolfStat top-25, including four of the top five.
Morgan Egloff was the Tars top finisher, tying for 24th with a four-over score of 220. After shooting scores of 72-74 on Monday, he came back with a two-over 74 closing round. The junior then posted a final round 74. His day featured an eagles-3 on the 499-yard second hole.
Will Hall moved up 11 spots on the leaderboard Tuesday into a tie for 38th (+10) The senior posted rounds of 73-79 on day one before carding a two-over 74 Tuesday. He was consistent over the final 18 with 12 pars, two birdies and four bogeys.
Mason Fox shot the Tars best score of the final day with a one-over 73 after scores of 77-79 Monday. He jumped 13 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 51st place with a 13-over 229. Trystan Perkins posted a 16-over score of 232 (78-76-78) and finished 61st while Justin Karlins was two shots back in 62nd with 234 strokes (74-81-79).
Jorge Garcia of Barry won the event in record setting fashion, posting a 12-under 204 (68-72-64).
The Tars are off for the next four weeks before traveling to Valdosta for the 2019 Southeastern Intercollegiate at Kinderlou Forest, March 10-12.
