Rollins Takes on Fifth Nationally-Ranked Opponent This Season

With five games left in the regular season, the Rollins men's lacrosse team opens the month of April with a mid-week Sunshine State Conference road game at Saint Leo University. Game time against the Lions is set for 7:00 p.m. at University Turf Stadium on the campus of Saint Leo University. After dropping a hard-fought contest to then-No. 18 Florida Tech last week, the Tars did not receive any votes on this week's USILA Division II Coaches Poll, and received votes on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20. Saint Leo enters into Wednesday night's game riding a four-game win streak, and currently sits at No. 6 on both the USILA Poll, and the NIKE/USL Top 20.
Rollins enters into Wednesday night's game with a record of 4-4 overall and 1-1 in Sunshine State Conference action. Saint Leo, who currently leads the SSC standings, enters into the match-up with a record of 8-1 and 2-0 in SSC play.
TRACKING THE TARS:
The Tars have played a total of eight games and enter into Wednesday's matchup with a record of 4-4 overall after facing four nationally-ranked programs so far this season. Freshman Joey Cinque has hit his stride in the last few outings, and now matches Jeremy Slocumb and Greg Taicher as they have all earned 15 goals so far this season. Both Slocumb and Taicher have notched a team best seven assists for a team-leading 22 points apiece. Senior Connor Ashton matches the duo in assists with seven, and has added one goal for eight points so far this year. Jackson Colling has notched seven goals and two assists for nine points, while Grant Long and Tommy Keane have eight points this season, with Long notching five goals and three assists, and Keane earning four goals and four assists. Kyle Sudol leads the team in ground balls with 44, and has won a team best 81-of-142 faceoff attempts this season. Lucas Brush has earned 30 ground balls, followed by Eva Schimek with 19, and Taicher with 15. Schimek has earned a team best 16 caused turnovers, followed by Brush with 12. Freshman long stick middie Chase Snyder has also hit his stride, causing seven turnovers and earning 12 ground balls as of late. In Goal, Andrew Hoemann has seen a total of 471:55 minutes in cage, earning 73 saves for a save percentage of .480. Hoemann has allowed 79 goals, for a goals against average of 10.04, and has earned 14 ground balls.
TRACKING THE LIONS:
The Lions have played nine games leading up to Wednesday night's match-up. Kyle Pauwels leads the way with 34 goals and has added 13 assists for a team high 47 points. Matching Pauwels in points is Jake Gilmour, whose team best 25 assists adds to his 22 goals for 47 total points so far this year. Charlie Kurtenbach is also a heavy contributor with a tea second best 23 goals and 21 assists for 44 points overall. Jordan Williams leads the team in ground balls with 42, and has won 107-of-210 faceoff attempts so far this season. Julian Taylor and Kurtenbach follow with 29 and 27 ground balls, respectively. Ethan Ticehurst leads the pack with 11 caused turnovers, followed closely by Joe Serrechia and Jake Bye with nine each. In goal, Thomas Tartarian has started all nine games, seeing a total of 518:28 minutes between the pipes. Tartarian has faced 321 shots so far this season, posting a save percentage of .616 as he has earned 125 saves. Entering into Wednesday's game, he has earned 76 saves, for a goals against average of 8.80 this season.
The Tars' longest running rivalry dates back to their first matchup on March 2, 2008, and has seen the two teams square up against each other 14 times throughout the years. Saint Leo holds onto the series advantage, 11-3, but the Tars have won the last three matchups against the Lions, most recently defeating the Green and Gold in overtime, 10-9, in the 2017 SSC Tournament Semifinals to advance to the Tournament Championship game.

- With 84 overall points, Greg Taicher has surpassed Austin Ricci `13 for career points in the program record books. Taicher also sits fifth overall in career goals (58) and sixth in career assists (26).
- Jeremy Slocumb now sits in the program record books for career assists, having earned 13 to place him in a tie for 17th.
- Connor Ashton currently sits 14th in program record books for career points (48), 15th for career goals (26), and has moved into a tie for eighth for career assists (22), tied with James Libutti `12.
- Lucas Brush has earned 135 ground balls, and has moved into fourth in program record books for ground balls in a career, surpassing Nick Scannapieco `13. The Dublin, Ohio native is also currently fifth in program record books for career caused turnovers with 52. He currently sits 25 CT's behind program leader Scannapieco, who amassed 77 in his career.
