Senior Named to Team of the Week For First Time of His Career

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 10, 2018) – After earning a career high for goals and points in a game, and helping the Tars to a record of 1-1 last week, senior midfielder Connor Ashton has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (USILA) Division II Team of the Week, organization officials announced Tuesday.

This marks the first USILA DII Team of the Week honor of Ashton's career.

Ashton led the Tars in scoring on the week as Rollins narrowly missed upsetting No. 6 Saint Leo, 11-10, followed by a 16-11 win at Florida Southern, who came in at No. 20 on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20 last week.  Ashton scored eight goals, dished out two assists, fired off 17 shots and 11 shots on goal, while adding a ground ball in two games played.

In the Tars' near-upset at No. 6 Saint Leo, Ashton tallied a hat trick and added an assist, firing off six shots and four shots on goal while adding a ground ball.  Rollins wrapped up the week with a SSC victory over Florida Southern thanks to Ashton's five goal and six-point performance, both career highs, as he added one assist on the day.  Against the Mocs, Ashton fired off 11 shots, placing seven on goal.

The Tars return to action on Wednesday, April 11, when they host the University of Tampa at Cahall-Sandspur Field in Sunshine State Conference action.  Game time against the Spartans is set for 7 p.m.  Fans who are unable to support the Tars in person can follow all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network, as well as with live stats on TarsStats.com.
