Freshman Goalie Secures First Player of the Week Nod of His Career
MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 11, 2019) – After earning 13 saves to help the Rollins men's lacrosse team defeat Westminster (Utah) by a final score of 12-8 on Sunday afternoon, freshman goalie Will Eckert has been tabbed Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
The marks the first Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honor for Eckert's career.
Eckert took to the field after Rollins starting goalie Landon Salie was sidelined due to injury, and made his time in cage count as he faced 19 shots in 37:46 minutes of action. The Bristow, Va. native earned 13 saves and allowed just six goals against the Griffins, walking away from the afternoon with a save percentage of .684. With Eckert's help, the Tars earned a 12-8 victory over the Griffins, marking their third straight win and helping Rollins advance to 4-1 on the year. Eckert added a ground ball and a caused turnover to his stat sheet while helping the Tars find success on 16-of-18 clearing attempts and allowing only two goals on five man-down opportunities
