Rollins Set to Match Up Against Mavericks in Regional Clash

SET-UP:
Continuing their spring break road trip, the Tars travel to Grand Junction, Colo. to take on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa.  Rollins received votes on both the USILA/Warrior and New Balance DII Poll and NIKE/US Lacrosse DII Top-20 this week, while the Mavs checked in at No. 20 on the USILA poll, and No. 19 on the US Lacrosse standings.  Game time is slated for 9 pm Eastern/7 pm Mountain time.  Links to live coverage of the game are available on RollinsSports.com.

TRACKING THE TARS:
Entering into Wednesday evening's game with a record of 4-1, the Tars are riding a three-game win streak, most recently defeating Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah on Sunday afternoon.  After five games played, Rollins is led by Ryan Dunn with 16 goals, and Greg Taicher with 13.  Taicher has notched a team best eight assists for a team-leading 21 points this season, while Tommy Keane has dished out five assists of his own.  Dunn has added four assists so far this year, good for 20 points overall.  Kyle Sudol has earned a team-leading 25 ground balls, and has won 40-of-57 faceoff attempts.  Close behind is Cam Reeves, whose 18 ground balls are the result of winning 34-of-50 faceoff attempts.  Evan Schimek has earned 13 ground balls, and leads the team with 10 caused turnovers.  In goal, Landon Salie has seen the most time between the pipes, playing for a total of 225:22 minutes where he has earned 30 saves while allowing 29 goals.  Salie holds onto a save percentage of .508, and a goals against average of 7.72 after five games.  Will Eckert has seen time in 67:46 minutes of action, earning 15 saves while allowing only eight goals.  Eckert, the reigning Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, boasts a save percentage of .652, and a goals against average of 7.08.

TRACKING THE MAVERICKS:
No. 20/19 Colorado Mesa enters into Wednesday night's game with a record of 3-2, and are coming off of a 10-5 win over Lynn University on March 2.  The matchup against the Tars marks the Mavs' home opener, as they have only played on the road or at neutral sites so far this season.  After five games played, the Mavericks are led by Jack Griffin with 11 goals and seven assists, for a team high 18 points so far this season.  Johnny Cary and Brandon Wilson have scored seven and six goals, respectively.  Behind Griffin's seven assists, Both Brandon Wilson and Joe Wulforst IV have earned four apiece. Michael Marino has amassed 28 ground balls, and has won 50-of-103 faceoff attempts, owing a win percentage of .485.  Austin Bullock has earned 24 ground balls, while Cole Smith and Ryder Clark have notched 12 and nine caused turnovers, respectively.  Three goalies have seen time this year for the Mavericks including Nick Wilson, Christian Cherry, and Remi Reeves. Reeves, the RMAC Preseason Goal Keeper of the year has totaled 31 saves while allowing 24 goals in five games as he has faced 93 shots.  Reeves holds onto a save percentage of .564 and a goals against average of 9.85. More recently Cherry and Wilson have stepped in, with Cherry playing 123:48 minutes ad Wilson seeing 30:00 minutes between the pipes.  Cherry has allowed 16 goals while earning 18 saves while facing 69 shots, with a save percentage of .529 and a goals against average of 7.75.  Wilson has earned seven saves while allowing three goals as he faced 22 shots.  Wilson has earned a save percentage of .700 so far this season, and has a goals against average of 6.00.

NOTES:

  • Since the Mavericks last competed they swept the RMAC Player of the Week awards with Jack Griffins earning Offensive Player of the Week and goalie Christian Cherry earning Defensive Player of the Week back on March 4th. This was the second consecutive week the Mavs swept POTW awards. 
  • Rollins leads the all-time series against the Mavs, 3-2, with all five games being played in Winter Park.  Wednesday's matchup marks the first time the Tars and Mavericks will face off on CMU's home turf.
  • Last time out against Colorado Mesa, Rollins upset the then fourth-ranked Mavericks by a final score of 12-9 on March 13, 2018.
  • The Tars are currently 3-1 this season when playing on the road.
