Senior Earns First Conference Weekly Award of His Career
MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 18, 2019) – Rollins men's lacrosse senior defender Evan Schimek was instrumental for the Tars last week, helping Rollins to two regional victories, including an upset for then No. 20 Colorado Mesa. For his efforts, Schimek has been named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
This marks the first SSC Player of the Week award for Schimek of his career.
Schimek earned an assist while totaling a team high eight caused turnovers and adding four ground balls on the week. In the Tars' 12-8 upset victory over No. 20 Colorado Mesa, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native earned a ground ball and caused a game high five caused turnovers while helping to hold the Mavericks to just 12 shots on goal and keeping them silent on both extra-man opportunities. In the Tars' big 22-8 win over Colorado State-Pueblo, Schimek earned an assist while adding three ground balls and three caused turnovers in his time on the field. With Schimek's help, the Tars have won five straight games.
Rollins men's lacrosse returns to action on Saturday, March 23, when they open up Sunshine State Conference play at Florida Tech.
