Rollins and Fighting Knights Set to Face Off in Afternoon SSC Clash

SET-UP:
After falling to the Florida Tech Panthers last week in a down-to-the-wire heartbreaker, the Rollins men's lacrosse team will look to right their ship on Saturday afternoon when they face Lynn University at Bobby Campbell Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.  The Tars and Fighting Knights are set to clash in a Sunshine State Conference tilt, with first faceoff set for 1:00 p.m.   Fans who are not able to support the Tars in person on Sunday afternoon will be able to follow all of the action live with a broadcast on the Tars Sports Network, as well as with live stats on TarsStats.com.

TRACKING THE TARS:
After cracking into the national polls last week, the Tars found themselves dropping out of the standings on both the USILA/Warrior and New Balance Division II Poll, as well as the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20 this week following their loss to FIT, receiving votes for the seventh week this season.  After eight games played this season, the Tars have posted 120 goals, averaging 15.00 goals per game, while adding 67 assists.  Rollins averages 44.38 shots per game, and has a shot percentage of .338 entering into Saturday's contest.  Greg Taicher, who is on the cusp of becoming the program's all-time leader in goals, assists, and overall points, currently leads the team in points with 33 as he has amassed 20 goals and 13 assists. Taicher needs just one assist to become the program's all-time leader in both assists and overal points, and is seven goals away from breaking the program record for goals scored in a career.  Ryan Dunn has tallied a team leading 23 goals while adding eight assists for 31 points overall.  Behind Dunn and Taicher, Joey Cinque has scored 15 goals, followed by Tommy Keane with 12.  After Taicher's team best 13 assists, Dunn follows with eight, followed by Blake Buell with seven, and Keane and Grant Long with six apiece.  Evan Schimek has earned a team best 20 caused turnovers and 22 ground balls.  Kyle Sudol has won 56-of-97 faceoff attempts while earning 34 ground balls, while Cam Reeves has won 50-of-86 faceoff attempts, winning 25 ground balls in the process.  Will Eckert has played a total of 232:46 minutes in goal in six games, and enters into Saturday's game with a record of 2-1.  Eckert has allowed 37 goals while earning 39 saves, holding onto a save percentage of .513, an a goals against average of 9.54.

TRACKING THE FIGHTING KNIGHTS:
The Fighting Knights received votes on both the USILA Poll and US Lacrosse Top-20 this week.  After eight games played, Lynn holds onto a record of 5-3 overall, and 0-1 in SSC action, having lost to Florida Southern by a score of 13-9 on Saturday, March 16.  The Fighting Knights enter into Saturday afternoon's game riding a two game win streak, having most recently defeated St. Michael's 12-9, and Colorado State-Pueblo, 16-6.  Lynn has notched 94 goals, averaging 11.75 per game, and has earned 52 assists so far this season.  Lynn averages 40.25 shots per game, and currently holds onto a shot percentage of .292.  Leading the way for the Blue and White is Xander Cosenza with 16 goals, followed by Keegan Maxwell with 14, Caleb Wells with 11, and Conor Vaughan with 10.  Mikey Urso has earned a team best 14 assists so far this season, followed closely by Nick McCabe with 13.  Dryden Brous has amassed an astonishing 98 ground balls, having won 148-of-191 face-off attempts, which places him third in Division II.  Evan P. Kalish leads the team with eight caused turnovers, while Christian Jenkins and Harrison Kaplan have tallied six apiece.  In goal, Collin McClelland has played the most minutes, seeing a total of 430:49 minutes in cage.  McClelland enters into Saturday with a save percentage of .500 as he has earned 68 saves while allowing 68 goals, averaging 9.47 goals against per game.

  • Senior attackman Greg Taicher is poised to set three new program records.  The Berwyn, Pa. native is one point away from becoming the program's all-time leader in points, one assist away from becoming the program's all-time leader in assists, and seven goals away from becoming the program's all-time leader in goals scored.  Currently, Taicher is tied in first in overall points with Jack Vonarb (14-17) with 130, and is tied in first place in career assists with Morgan Baker `16 with 43.  Taicher also sits second in program record books for career goals with 87, and needs seven more to overtake Vonarb, who ended his time as a Tar with 93 career goals.
  • The Tars are 16th in DII in assists per game (8.38), 17th in caused turnovers per game (9.88), 15th in ground balls (338), sixth in ground balls per game (42.25), 13th in points per game (23.38), 11th in scoring defense where they lead the SSC (8.88), 12th in scoring offense (15.00), 12th in shot percentage with an SSC best .338, and 15th in winning percentage with a conference best .750.
  • Evan Schimek sits seventh in DII in caused turnovers per game (2.5), good for second in the SSC standings.
  • Ryan Dunn ranks 10th in DII and third in the SSC in shot percentage (.548).
  • The Fighting Knights are first in Division II in clearing percentage (.908), second in DII and first in the SSC in face-off winning percentage (.780), 18th in DII in ground balls (323), and 10th in DII in ground balls per game (40.38).
  • Lynn's Dryden Brous is third in DII and first in the SSC in face-off winning percentage (.775), and third in DII and first in the SSC in ground balls per game (12.25).
