Taicher Breaks Two All-Time Program Records in Matchup against Fighting Knights

Rollins Falls to Lynn by Final Score of 10-8


BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 30, 2019) – Rollins senior attackman Greg Taicher earned an assist on the first Tars' goal of the game, marking his 44th career assist and 131st career point to set new all-time program records in both categories.  Despite the Tars' fourth-quarter comeback, the Rollins mens' lacrosse team fell to Lynn University by a final score of 10-8 on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Campbell Stadium.

The loss marks the second-straight for the Tars, who received votes on both the USILA/Warrior and New Balance DII Poll as well as the NIKE/US Lacrosse DII Top 20 this past week, and drops them to a record of 6-3, and 0-2 in SSC action.  The Fighting Knights, who also received votes on both polls, advance to 6-3 and 1-1 in SSC play.

Taicher's record-setting day was highlighted by a hat trick and three assists to lead the team with six points on the afternoon.  Ryan Dunn matched Taicher in points on the afternoon with four goals and two assists, followed by one goal by Joey CinqueGrant Long added an assist of his own as the Tars put up a total of eight goals and six assist on the afternoon.  Facing off against the third-ranked specialist in Division II and top-ranked faceoff specialist in the conference, the Tars won 6-of-22, with Kyle Sudol winning 2-of-8, and Cam Reeves winning 4-of-14.  Roya Hansen, Evan Schimek, Revves, and Rob Champigny each earned a team high three ground balls on the day, while Wyatt Todd, Hansen, Taicher, Chase Snyder, and Schimek all notched a team best two caused turnovers apiece.  In goal, Will Eckert played a full game, facing 33 shots and 16 shots on goal from the Fighting Knights. Eckert earned six saves while allowing 10 goals on the day.

The Fighting Knights were led by Caleb Wells with three goals, while Xander Cosenza notched two goals and two assists.  Conor Vaughan and Mikey Urso tallied two goals apiece on the afternoon, followed by Nick McCabe with one.  Jared Chaloux notched two assists of his own, along with McCabe.  Conrad Rhein and Vaughan each earned one assist on the day to wrap up the Fighting Knights' scoring efforts on the day.  Dryden Brous, who ranks third in DII in face-off win percentage, earned 16-of-22 on the day while winning a game high 10 ground balls.  Defender Evan Kalish led the team in caused turnovers with three.  In goal, Collin McClelland played a full 60 minutes, facing 35 shots and 21 shots on goal from the Tars.  McClelland earned 13 saves while allowing just eight goals.

How it Happened:
The Tars took a 2-0 lead in the first six and a half minutes as the duo of Dunn Taicher combined to notch a goal and an assist apiece.  However, the Fighting Knights jousted back and scored for unanswered goals to close out the first quarter with a 4-2 lead.  Lynn outscored the Tars 6-2 throughout the second and third quarter, leaving Rollins in a 10-4 deficit entering into the final quarter of action.  The Tars then held the Fighting Knights scoreless throughout the final 15 minutes of action, adding four goals to the scoreboard to close out the contest trailing by just two, 10-8.

Notes:

  • Taicher's assist on the first goal of the game moved him into first place in program record books in both career points (131), and career assists (44).  After his three goal, three assist performance, Taicher now has 136 career points, 46 career assists, and 90 career goals.  He is now just four goals away from becoming the program's all-time leader in career goals scored.
  • The Tars lead the series against the Fighting Knights, 4-2, and are now 2-1 when playing on Lynn's home turf.
  • Both Rollins and Lynn received votes on both the USILA/Warrior and New Balance DII Poll and NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20 this week.
  • With 62 career caused turnovers, Evan Schimek is 16 away from becoming the program's all-time leader in caused turnovers in a career.  Schimek needs to surpass Nick Scannapieco `13, who concluded his career with 77 caused turnovers.
