SET-UP:
After back-to-back Sunshine State Conference victories last week, including an 11-10 upset victory over then 14th-ranked Saint Leo University, the Rollins men's lacrosse team checks in at No. 20 on the USILA/New Balance and Warrior Division II Poll this week.  The Tars, who currently sit tied for third in SSC standings, make the short trek down I-4 to the 16th-ranked University of Tampa on Wednesday night, where they will face the Spartans in conference action.  Tampa, who remains unbeaten within the SSC with a record of 4-0, holds onto an overall record of 10-4, and saw themselves out of the out of the USILA rankings for the firs time since 2015 last week.  Since then, the Spartans have battled their way back into the standings, sitting 16th on both the USILA standings and NIKE/US Lacrosse Top 20.  Game time between the Tars and Spartans is set for 8 p.m.  Fans who are unable to attend the game will be able to follow all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network and on the Sunshine State Conference Digital Network, as well as with live stats on TarsStats.com.

TRACKING THE TARS:
Coming off of two straight SSC wins last week, the Tars enter into Wednesday with a record of 8-3 and 2-2 in SSC action. Rollins, who checked in at No. 20 on the USILA DII Poll as well as received votes on the NIKE/US Lacrosse DII Top 20, are 4-3 when playing on the road this season.  After 11 games played, Rollins has put up 159 goals, averaging 14.45 per game, and have added 91 assists.  Rollins averages 43.45 shots per game, and own a shot percentage of .333 as a team.

Ryan Dunn leads the team in goals with 34, and has added a team second best 12 assists for 46 points so far in his inaugural campaign with the Tars. Leading the team in assists is Greg Taicher with 18, while adding a team second best 27 goals for 45 points overall.  Behind Dunn and Taicher, Joey Cinque has netted 18 goals, followed by Tommy Keane with 15.  Kyle Sudol has earned 38 ground balls so far this year as he has won 71-of-139 faceoff attempts, while freshman Cam Reeves has pulled in 32 ground balls as he has won 65-of-122 from the faceoff-x.  Evan Schimek has earned 33 ground balls, and leads the team in caused turnovers with 28.  After taking over the starting position a few games back, freshman goalie Will Eckert has played a total of 412:46 minutes in cage, earning 69 saves while allowing 68 goals.  Eckert has notched a save percentage of .504, and enters into Wednesday's matchup with a goals against average of 9.88.

TRACKING THE SPARTANS
The Spartans enter into Wednesday night's contest with a record of 10-4, and 4-0 in SSC play, and check in at No. 16 on both the USILA and US Lacrosse rankings this week.  After 14 games played, the Spartans have put up 212 goals and 127 assists, averaging 15.14 goals per game on 44.86 shots per game with a shot percentage of .338.

Andrew Kew leads the team in goals and assists with 41 and 27, respectively, good for a team best 68 points on the season.  Colin White has notched 38 goals of his own, followed by Jake Mosher McGraw with 25, and Matt Vetter with 22.  Vetter has put up a team second best 22 assists for 44 points so far this year.  Ross Dickerson leads the team in ground balls with 157 as he has won 265-of-346 faceoff attempts.  Luke Robideaux has earned 30 ground balls, while Colin White and Gavin Perry have won 27 and 26, respectively. Leading the Spartans in caused turnovers is Sam Collingwood with 18, while Robideaux has earned 13.  In goal, B.J Borowski has played a total of 569:02 minutes, earning 95 saves while allowing 104 goals.  Borowski holds onto a save percentage of .477, and a goals against average of 10.97.

  • For his efforts last week, senior defender Evan Schimek was named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, and earned a spot on the USILA Division II Team of the Week.
  • Ryan Dunn was named Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Tars in scoring
  • With three goals against Florida Southern, senior attackman Greg Taicher became the program's all-time leader in goals scored.  Taicher now leads the all-time record books in goals, assists, and overall points.
  • With 67 career caused turnovers, Evan Schimek is 11 away from becoming the program's all-time leader in caused turnovers in a career.  Schimek needs to surpass Nick Scannapieco `13, who concluded his career with 77 caused turnovers in his four year career.
