No. 20 Rollins Earns Easy Conference Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic on Senior Day

Tars Send Seniors Off with 16-5 Win over Sailfish


WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 13, 2019) – Sending out their 2019 senior class on a high note, sophomore attackman Joey Cinque led the Tars in goals with five as the No. 20 Rollins men's lacrosse team rolled to a 15-6 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon at Cahall-Sandspur Field.  The Senior Day victory advances the Tars to 9-4, and 3-3 in Sunshine State Conference play, while the loss drops the Sailfish to 6-9 overall and 1-5 in conference standings.

Behind Cinque's five goals, senior attackman Greg Taicher netted four goals and an assist on the afternoon.  Both Tommy Keane and Roy Hansen earned two assists apiece, while Blake Buell and Brandon Carlin notched one assist each.  Eric NeCamp found the back of the net twice, followed by Finn Jent with one goal on the day.  Ryan Dunn had a four point performance with one goal and three assists, while both Marshall Ellison and Grant Long scored one goal each. Chase Snyder earned one assist, as well.  Kyle Sudol led the Tars in ground balls as he won 7-of-8 faceoff attempts, while Cam Reeve won 8-of-9 attempts with four ground balls, and Jake Joes won 2-of-5 with a ground ball.  Will Eckert and Hansen added four ground balls each.  Snyder had a solid outing on defense with five caused turnovers to lead the game.  In goal, Eckert played 54:02 minutes in goal, facing 17 shots where he earned 11 saves while allowing just six goals.  Ty Wedekind closed out the final 5:58 minutes, where he did not face a shot from the Sailfish.

Palm Beach Atlantic saw a team high two goals from Jackson Miller, while Zack Figura, Blake Israel, Brian Devinney, and Jordan Trowbridge scored one each.  Ethan Menne, Townsend Brown, and Kyle Savick handed out one assist apiece.  Marcus Lantier earned a team high four ground balls while in goal, where he faced 31 shot from the Tars making 16 saves while allowing 15 goals in a full 60 minutes of action.  Landon Johnson handled the majority of the faceoff duties, winning 5-of-17 attempts.  In total, four different Sailfish earned one caused turnover on the afternoon.

How it Happened:
The Tars held onto a slight 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but rolled through the second period where they outscored PBA 3-1 to enter into the halftime break with a score of 6-3.  The third quarter saw the Tars put up five goals while holding the Sailfish to just one, followed by a fourth quarter where Rollins outscored their opponent 4-2 to close out the game with a 15-6 win.

Notes:

  • With 72 career caused turnovers, Evan Schimek is six away from becoming the program's all-time leader in career caused turnovers.  Schimek needs to surpass Nick Scannapieco `13, who concluded his career with 77 caused turnovers in his four-year career.
  • With his four points on the afternoon, Ryan Dunn set a new program record for points scored in a season.  The Ridgefield, Conn. native is also set a new program record for goals scored in a season. 
  • Saturday's matchup marked the second meeting between the two teams in official competition.  Rollins now leads the all-time series, 2-0.
