Tars Earn No. 3 Seed; Face No. 2 Seeded Tampa, Thursday
WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 21, 2019) – With a regular season record of 10-4 and 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference action, the Rollins men's lacrosse team enters the Sunshine State Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed.
The Tars will take on No. 2 seed Tampa on Thursday, April 25, in the SSC Tournament Semifinals. The Tars and Spartans will square off in an 8:00 p.m. contest, hosted by UT at the Naimoli Athletic Complex. The top-seeded Lynn University Fighting Knights will host the fourth-seeded Saint Leo Lions at 5:00 p.m. in Boca Raton on Thursday evening in the second Semifinal match-up. The Championship game will be held at the highest remaining seed on Sunday, April 28.
Lynn University claims the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament after winning the regular season championship. The Fighting Knights and the University of Tampa Spartans both finished 6-1 in league play, but Lynn won the head-to-head matchup, 11-10, in Tampa. No. 1 Lynn will host No. 4 Saint Leo University, while No. 2 Tampa square up against No. 3 Rollins College. The Tars and the Lions both finished at 4-3 in SSC play; however Rollins defeated Saint Leo, 11-10, at home.
Since men's lacrosse became a league sport in 2014, an SSC team has made the NCAA tournament. Tampa was the lone representative for the conference from 2014 to 2017, reaching the semifinals three times in that span. Last season, Saint Leo defeated Tampa in a first-round overtime thriller. The Lions followed with a win over Lenoir-Rhyne University in the semifinals and fell to Merrimack College in the championship.
