SET-UP:
After concluding their regular season with a record of 10-4 overall and 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference action, the Rollins men's lacrosse team earns the No. 3 seed in the 2019 Sunshine State Conference Tournament.  This marks the fourth season the Tars have advanced to the conference tournament, and will be the third time the Tars have matched up against the Spartans in a tournament contest.  With a record of 12-5 overall and 6-1 in league play, Tampa enters into the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed.  Fans who are unable to support the Tars in person will be able to follow all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network, as well as with live stats on TarsStats.com.

TRACKING THE TARS:
The Tars received votes on the USILA DII Poll, and checked in at No. 17 on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Top 20 this week.  After playing in 14 games this season, the Tars have put up 200 goals and 113 assists, averaging 14.29 goals per game, 43.71 shots per game, and a shot percentage of .327.

Ryan Dunn has notched a team best 43 goals, followed by Greg Taicher with 32, Joey Cinque with 27, and Tommy Keane with 15.  Taicher has notched a team high 20 assists, followed by Dunn with 18, and Blake Buell, Brandon Carline, and Keane with 10 apiece.  Kyle Sudol has won a team high 49 ground balls as he has pulled in 89-of-169 faceoff attempts so far this season.  Cam Reeves has won 87-of-160 faceoff attempts, earning 41 ground balls.  Evan Schimek has amassed 34 caused turnovers while adding a team second best 42 ground balls.  Chase Snyder's 18 caused turnovers are good for a team second best, followed by Harrison Bluestein with 14, and Roy Hansen with 11 caused turnovers of his own.  In goal, Will Eckert has seen time in 12 games, earning nine starts, playing a total of 577:30 minutes.  The Bristow, Va. native has earned 88 saves while allowing 93 goals, holding onto a save percentage of .486 and allowing just 9.66 goals per game.

TRACKING THE SPARTANS:
With a record of 12-5, the Spartans welcome Rollins to the Naimoli Athletic Complex after getting back to their winning ways against Palm Beach Atlantic on April 20.  Prior to their win over the Sailfish, the Spartans fell to Lynn University by a final score of 11-10 on April 13, marking their only conference loss of the season.  After 17 games played, Tampa has put up 256 goals and 152 assists, averaging 15.06 goals per game, 45.24 shots per game, and a shot percentage of .333.

Reigning SSC Player of the Year Andrew Kew leads the team in goals with 50, followed by Colin White with 44, and Jake Mosher McGraw with 33.  Kew has also handed out a team best 31 assists, while Matt Vetter and Chris Cox have dished out 29 and 21, respectively.  Ross Dickerson leads the team with 190 ground balls after winning 317-of-422 faceoff attempts in 17 games played.  White, Gavin Perry, and Luke Robideaux follow with 35, 31, and 30 ground balls, correspondingly.  Earning a team best 21 caused turnovers is Sam Collingwood, followed by Dylan Carter and Robideaux with 13 each.  In goal for the Spartans, B.J. Borowski has played a total of 628:59 minutes, earning 97 saves while allowing 114 goals.  Borowski holds onto a save percentage of .460, and has a goals against average of 10.87.

NOTES:

  • Thursday night's game will mark the second time the two teams have met this season.  Last time out against Tampa, Rollins almost upset the then-No. 16 Spartans in a 13-12 loss on Tampa's home turf on April 10.
  • This will mark the third time the Tars and Spartans will have met in Sunshine State Conference Tournament action.  Last time the two teams met in the conference tourney, then No. 1 seeded Tampa defeated the then-second seeded Tars by a final score of 16-7 on May 1, 2016 in the Tournament Championship game.  Prior to that, the two teams met in the SSC Tournament Semifinals on April 19, 2014, where Tampa defeated the Tars by a score of 13-8.
  • When playing on the road, the Tars are 5-4 this season.
  • Rollins enters into the game receiving votes on the USILA/Warrior and New Balance DII Poll, and ranked No. 17 on the the NIKE/US Lacrosse DII top 20 this week.

    • 2014 – Rollins falls to Tampa on April 19 in the SSC Tournament Semifinals, 13-8
