WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 3, 2018) – Racing in breezy, cold conditions, the Rollins men's Varsity 4 started the season in style, beating Central Florida Crew to highlight the Tars day at Metro Cup.
The 43rd annual event was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Orange County East and hosted on the Tars home water of Lake Maitland.
The men's JV 4 was the next closest race with the Tars taking second place. The boat of Landon Higginbotham, Pakuris, Robinson Koger, Jonathan Taylor and Carlos Villarroel remained in contact from start to finish, but was just not able to overtake the visitors, coming up short by 2.1 seconds.
"We tried some new line-ups today," said Rollins head coach Shawn Pistor. "This gave us good insight to the types of racers our athletes are and what we can focus on as the season progresses."
The Tars hope to get a few athletes back in action next week and allow for the Varsity 8 as well as all of the 4's to race at the Rollins Invitational, March 10. It will be another duel for the Tars, squaring off with Stetson. Racing begins at 7:50 a.m. on Lake Maitland.
