GAINESVILLE, Ga. (March 23, 2019) – After four-straight races on its home Lake Maitland, Rollins rowing took to the road Saturday, competing at the John Hunter Regatta just outside of Atlanta.
The venue on Lake Lanier was the rowing site for the 1996 Sumer Olympics.
Rollins was on the water against 15 schools from around the Southeast.
The day started out with the Novice 4. The boat of Mia McKay, Jose Fernandez, Timothy Edwards, Cameron Harris and Jake Wheeler were in the first flight of the day winning this race by 18 seconds over Clemson. Of the four flights and 20 boats total, Rollins was the fastest of all of them.
Jose Fernandez doubled into the Varsity 4, joining Mckay, Connor Stolp, Michael Pakuris and Cameron Boyd where they need to race a heat to get into the grand finals. Rollins finished second in the heat, qualifying for the grand finals.
The Tars grabbed a bronze medal in the finals, finishing just behind Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt, but beating Alabama, Florida State and Tulane.
The Rollins men are back on the road to close March, traveling to Oklahoma to face Oklahoma City on Saturday, March 29.
