WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 1, 2014) - The Tars picked up their first conference win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, knocking off Florida Southern, 3-0.
With the win, Rollins improves to 5-3 on the season, 1-1 in the SSC, while the Moccasins fall to 4-3-1, 0-1 in the conference.
As a team, the Tars outshot FSC, 17-11, and took seven corners compared to the Mocs' three.
Brett Durrance led the way offensively, scoring twice, with Sebastian Walker chipping in with his second of the year. Durrance also added an assist while Skyler Russell had a season high two.
In goal, freshman Julian Grundler recorded his second career clean sheet, finishing with a pair of saves.
Walker opened the scoring just over nine minutes into the game Wednesday, driving home a shot after a Durrance cross found the senior at the far post.
The score would hold at 1-0 through the half before Durrance extended the Tars' lead in the 50th minute. Russell played a long ball towards the far post and Durrance had no trouble heading it past Mocs keeper Cole Clingerman for the goal.
Durrance would add a second in the 62nd minute to cap off the win, taking a pass from Evan Greenbaum and somehow slipped a shot underneath Clingerman for his fifth of the year, good for the team lead.
The Tars will be back in action on Saturday, October 4th, traveling to Barry. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. Fans can follow along with all the action live on RollinsSports.com
