Three Tars Earn All-SSC Honors

MELBOURNE, Fla. (November 2, 2017) – Three Tars were among the 23 student-athletes recognized as All-Sunshine State Conference for the 2017 season.  Defender Fritz Engel was named to the First Team, while forward Stefan Avram and midfielder Ben Grant both received Second Team honors.

Engel, a Berlin, Germany native, has been named to the First Team as a stalwart presence on the Tars backline this year, appearing in all 15 games, including making 14 starts.  The rangy defender has been a key part of a defense that is surrendering just over one goal per game.  Engel has also contributed to the attack this year, tallying two goals, and a team leading four assists.  He headed home the game winner against Florida Southern, and his four assists are a tie for seventh most in the conference. 

Stefan Avram earned a spot on the Second Team as his form has develop down the stretch run of the 2017 season, making a big contribution to the Tars in SSC play.  The Orlando, Florida native currently sits tied for the Rollins lead, and a top the SSC leaderboards for goals, with nine tallies, and three game winners.  The junior scored four times in the Tars' rout of Saint Leo, and twice in the Tars postseason clinching win against Florida Tech on October 24.  Avram's performance against the Panthers earned him SSC Offensive Player of the Week honors as well. 

Ben Grant received Second Team honors after captaining the Tars during his junior campaign.  The midfielder has been one of the Tars' most consistent players throughout the season.  The Manchester, England native is tied with Avram for both the team and SSC lead, with nine goals.  The junior has also added one assist for a team leading 19 points, third highest total in the SSC.  Grant has score three game winning goals, including an overtime game winner on the road against Eckerd. 

Last time out the fourth-seeded Tars defeated fifth-seeded Florida Tech, 3-2, in the opening round of SSC Tournament play.  Avram and Grant both tallied, Grant also picking up an assist on Avram's game winner, while Engel and the Tars' defense held the conference's most potent offense under their scoring average.  Rollins will now travel to West Palm Beach, Florida to take on tournament host, and top-seeded, No. 2 Palm Beach Atlantic.  The match is scheduled for Friday, November 3, at 7 p.m.
