Rollins Sits Fourth in Preason Poll

MELBOURNE, Fla. (August 21, 2018) – The Tars men's soccer team was selected fourth in the Sunshine State Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, it was announced Tuesday.  The poll was voted on by the conference's 11 head coaches.

Rollins returns 17 players from the 2017 squad that advanced to the SSC Championship game.  Among the veterans are eleven seniors, including Second Team All-SSC honorees Stefan Avram and Ben Grant.  Keith Buckley, who is entering his 28th season at the helm of the Tars, will also turn to a large incoming class, to help Rollins on the pitch.

Last season's regular season conference champions Palm Beach Atlantic took the top spot in the poll with 92 votes, and four first place nods.  Directly behind the Sailfish are the defending SSC Tournament Champions, the Tampa Spartans, with 91 votes and four first place tallies.  NCAA National Runner-up Lynn takes third in the poll, and captures the remaining three first place votes.  Rollins comes in fourth with 66 points.  Florida Tech rounds out the top-five, just two points behind the Tars.

Nova Southeastern enters the year projected sixth in the SSC.  Barry and Florida Southern are tied in the seventh position with 44 points.  Eckerd, Saint Leo, and Embry-Riddle complete the preseason ranks.

The Tars' season starts on August 30 when the No. 18 Wingate Bulldogs visit Winter Park for a 7 p.m. kickoff.  Rollins will travel to Florida Southern on Wednesday, September 19, to begins conference action.
