UPSET! Tars Down No. 18 Wingate to Kickoff 2018

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Winter Park, Fla.) – Rollins upset No. 18 Wingate by a score of 2-1 to start their 2018 season on a positive note.  The Tars begin the year 1-0-0, while the 2018 SAC preseason favorite Bulldogs fall to 0-1-0 on the year.

Stefan Avram scored both goals for Rollins, coming off assists from Mathieu Raison and Andre Nansen. Freshman Abdiel Martinez made six saves in his debut.  Elliot Cutts scored for Wingate from the penalty spot.  All-American keeper Pablo Jara made 5 saves for the Bulldogs.

Raison lofted a perfectly weighted ball over the Wingate defense in the ninth minute, allowing Avram to run under it and convert a one-on-one opportunity against Jara.  Cutts converted from the spot in the 57th minute to pull the match even.  Andre Nansen sent in a cross, following a corner kick, which Avram headed in for the Tars second goal, just after the 74 minute mark.  Martinez and the Tars' defense kept Wingate out of the back of the net over the final 15 minutes to secure the victory.

Rollins will return to the field on Saturday, September 1, when they will host Regis at Barker Family Stadium at 7 p.m.
