Tars Sail Past Argos in First Road Contest

PENSACOLA, Fla. (September 9, 2018) – Rollins picked their third win in three tries, defeating West Florida by a score of 3-1, Friday night.  The Tars remain perfect at 3-0-0, while the Argos drop to 0-2-1 in the young season.

Reigning SSC Offensive Player of the Week Stefan Avram recorded his fourth goal of the year, while Daniel Field tallied his first point in a Rollins uniform, and Damian Clarke found the back of the net, to account for the Rollins goals.  George New continued his stellar play, registering an assist on a corner kick, while Avram also earned a helper, his first of the year.  Eidur Ivarsson tallied five saves in his first collegiate start, earning the win.  Rafael Godoi scored the Argos goal, he was assisted by Ryan Sandidge. Jacob Murray made six saves in just over 80 minutes; Tanner Kukes saw the remaining time in net.

Stefan Avram gave the Tars the lead in the 15th minute.  George New sent a corner kick into the box and Avram was able to get on the end of it and direct it past Murray. The Argos equalized in the 51st minute when Rafael Godoi sent the ball into the net off a volleyed shot.  Rollins retook the lead in the 75th minute, with a second goal off a corner kick.  Andre Nansen put in a dangerous cross, a number of Tars swarmed the ball, but it was Daniel Field who got the final touch.  The Blue and Gold were able to see out the last 15 minutes, a task made easier when the Argos went down to 10 men with 10 minutes to play.  Murray came charging out of the goal and took down Logan Laskey, who was on a break away. The Tars capitalized on the extra man in the final moments, as Avram and Damian Clarke found themselves alone with the goal keeper.  Avram gathered the ball and sent a pass across net to Clarke, who tapped it into the open goal.

Rollins will continue their road trip with a visit to Spring Hill College on Sunday, September 9.  The Tars and Badgers kickoff at 1 p.m.
