LAKELAND, Fla. (September 19, 2018) – Rollins stumbled for the first time in 2018, falling 2-0 against Florida Southern in their first Sunshine State Conference match of the year. The No. 14 Tars fall to 6-1-0 on the year, and 0-1-0 in the SSC. The No. 18 Mocs remain unbeaten at 6-0-0, 2-0-0 in conference action.
Avram led the attack for Rollins, registering five shots and putting two on target. Abdiel Martinez made four saves, while facing 14 Florida Southern shots. James Meehan tallied both goals for the Mocs. Pablo Gallo Arias and Christoph Gums picked up assists. Benny Yusufoglu made three saves for the Mocs.
Meehan found the back of the net just after the 20 minute mark, scoring on a rebound. The game then went into a weather delay that lasted about an hour. When the two teams returned to the field it was again Florida Southern who were the aggressors, with Meehan getting on the end of a cross to double the lead in the 37th minute. The Tars could not mount a successful attack through the second half, and fell for the first time this season.
The Tars will now return home for a contest against Barry, who received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches National Poll. The Tars and Bucs will kickoff on Saturday, September 22, at 6 p.m.
