WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 10, 2018) – The Tars kept their hopes alive for a berth in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with a 2-1 win over Eckerd at Barker Family Stadium. Rollins improves to 8-5-0 overall and 2-5-0 in SSC action. The Tritons fall to 4-7-1 and 2-5-0 in conference play.
Stefan Avram led the Tars on the day, tallying one goal and one assist on the evening. Ray Gerke tallied the other Rollins goal, while Christian Adams earned an assist for the Tars. Abdiel Martinez made a pair of saves in 90 minutes of action in goal. Juan David Tejada registered the lone Triton score. Mason DeBaets and David Ormiston split time in net for Eckerd, combining for three saves.
The Tars got on the board first with Ray Gerke's first goal of the year. He gathered a beautiful back heel pass from Avram and blasted a shot from a harsh angle into the back of the net. Rollins would double their lead later in the period. Recently subbed on, Christian Adams broke down the wing and sent a low cross into the path of a streaking Stefan Avram who slid and knocked the ball by the keeper. The Tritons leading scorer, Juan David Tejada, would cut into the Rollins lead just before the halftime whistle. The teams traded half chances in the second 45 minutes, but neither could add to their score-line. In the end, the Tars comfortably saw off the final moments, sealing the victory.
After taking the weekend off the Tars will head to Saint Leo on Wednesday, October 17 for their next match. Kickoff against the Lions is set for 7 p.m.
