Rollins Secures Postseason Berth on Senior Night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 5, 2019) – The Tars were victorious on the final day of the regular season, securing a spot in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with a 2-0 win over Nova Southeastern at Barker Family Stadium.  Rollins end the regular season at 5-7-2 overall, and 4-4-2 in SSC action.  The Sharks fall to 8-5-3, 5-4-1 in conference play, to end their 2019 campaign.

Rollins got goals from Jari Polm and Dominic Adomakoh in the victory.  Michael Landau and William Centeno each registered assists.

The Sharks managed only two shots on goal during the match, one came from Henrik Berg and the other from Curtis Thorn.

Maximillian Obermeier maintained the clean sheet for Rollins making two saves.  Brian Lopez picked up the loss for Nova Southeastern, giving up a pair of goals in the first half.  He was replaced by David Gassner who made four saves in the second period.

The Tars came out as the aggressors with Centeno rattling the wood work twice early in the contest.  The Tars would finally get the breakthrough just past the half four mark. Landau sprinted down the wing, flying by Sharks defenders before sending the ball low across the face of goal.  Polm ran onto the inviting cross, tapping it in the back of the net.  Rollins would not wait long to double their lead.  In the 35th minute Centeno sent a long ball, over the Shark defense, and into the path of a charging Adomakoh.  The junior got to the ball just ahead of the Nova Southeastern keeper and poked it into the back of the net.

After a 50 minute rain delay, the second half saw the Sharks control much of the ball, but Rollins still looked dangerous on the counter attack.  Ultimately Rollins comfortably saw out the game, securing their spot in the SSC Tournament.

Notes:

  • The clean sheet was the first career shutout for Maximillian Obermeier.
  • The goal by Jari Polm was the freshman's first in the Blue and Gold.
  • The Tars held the SSC's most proficient offense at bay.  The Sharks entered the contest scoring a conference best 2.733 goals per game.
  • With the win Rollins jumped Tampa, and enter the SSC Tournamnet as the fifth seed.
