SET UP: After months of preparation, the Tars men's swim team is ready to dive into their 2017-2018 season. This marks Kyle Berg's second year at the helm of the Tars swim teams, while assistant Peggy de Villiers will enter her first season with the Tars.
Rollins finished sixth at the 2017 Championship Meet, and will be looking to improve on that finish later in the season. To kick-off their 2017-2018 campaign, the Tars will head to the University of Tampa to take on the Spartans.
WHO TO WATCH:
Rollins: The Tars have added 10 new faces to their roster from a year ago, and they will be hoping these new faces can have an immediate impact in the pool. Returning for the Tars, will be senior Arron Nestor who placed in the top-16 in three distance events at the SSC championships last season. Also returning for the Tars, will be senior Ailin McCullough who was a member of the Tars record breaking 400-yard Medley Relay team at the SSC Championships. Sophomore Luiggi Reno will look to continue his success in the pool for the Tars, when he placed in the top-16 in the 400-yard IM and 200-yard breaststroke at the SSC Championships last season.
Spartans: The Spartans will also be kicking off their 2017-2018 season. Tampa will be relying on some key returners in Sean Rodney and Tommy Reminger. Rodney earned Freshman of the Year honors in the SSC, as well as was named to the SSC Second team. Reminger, a senior from Chicago, Illinois was also tabbed with All-SSC honors a season ago. The Spartans have also added 10 new freshman to their roster.
Rollins will take a two week break from competition, following their opener, before heading south for a tri-meet, in Boca Raton, against Lynn and Keiser. The three teams will take to the water on Saturday, October 28, at 11 a.m.
