MELBOURNE, Fla. (December 4, 2017)- After an outstanding performance at the 13th annual SCAD invitational, freshman Alex Norcini has been named Sunshine State Conference Swimmer of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Norcini finished first in his record setting 400-yard Individual Medley swim, touching the wall in 3:59.43. The freshman shattered the previous school record of 4:08.40 held by Brian Sanborn, and was the only swimmer at the SCAD invitational under four minutes. The Lilburn, Georgia native continued to rewrite the record books on the third day of the SCAD invitational as well, when he took first place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:43.89. This broke the eight-year long record of 16:01.11, which was previously held by Kamel Tejeda. He would set yet another school in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:52.63, breaking the previous mark of 1:54.51.
Norcini also helped the Tars 4x100 yard relay team to a top five finish with a time of 3:11.52.
