WINTER PARK, Fla. (August 8, 2018) – Rollins men's and women's swimming Head Coach Kyle Berg has announced the addition of Julianne Kurke to his coaching staff for the 2018-2019 school year.
Kurke swam for Berg at Northwestern University, where she was twice elected as a team captain, and was named Academic All-Big 10 on two occasions. An excellent breaststroker, she qualified for the USA Olympic Trials in 2012 and 2016.
"I am thrilled with this opportunity to work with the incredible student athletes at Rollins," Kurke stated. "It is an honor to work with Kyle again, and the amazing program he has built here in Winter Park. I am committed to helping this team reach their full potential both in and out of the pool, and I cannot wait to get started!"
Since her graduation from Northwestern Kurke has returned to her home state of Georgia where she became the Head Coach of the Rivermist Swim Team and instructs with Swim Atlanta. As the Head Coach at Rivermist Swim Team she developed the program followed by over 100 swimmers, all under the age of 18. She guided the team to their best record in 8 seasons, and their best championship finish in 6 seasons, while almost all the individuals she trained set personal bests. She was nominated for GCSL Coach of the Year following both the 2017 and 2018 summer seasons. With Swim Atlanta Kurke guided over 150 swimmers with a focus on advanced stroke technique, all in preparation for the highest levels of competition.
"I had the pleasure of coaching Julianne as a student-athlete at Northwestern University and I am thrilled that she has chosen to join the Rollins Swimming coaching staff," said Berg. "Julianne is a dynamic, passionate, and highly cognitive individual – I am excited to see her take her coaching experiences at Swim Atlanta and Rivermist and provide a fresh perspective while working with our student-athletes. Having earned a degree in Biological Sciences from Northwestern with a concentration in Physiology, while earning the opportunity to compete at two separate USA Olympic Trials, I am certain that Julianne will be able to seek out and develop student-athletes capable of balancing the challenging student-athlete experience at Rollins."
The Tars swim season will get underway on October 13, when Tampa visits the Alfond Pool. The teams will dive in 11 a.m.
