CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 21, 2019) – Christian Huber earned a silver medal and posted a deep NCAA B cut in the 50-yard freestyle to highlight Rollins' opening day of the 2019 Sunshine State Conference Championships.
The Tars are fifth in the team standings with 66 points, just 20 off fourth place Saint Leo. Nova Southeastern leads the way with 188 while second place Tampa totals 172.
Huber was just a tenth of a second from gold, touching the wall in 20.22. The event saw all but two off the 16 competitors in the finals reach NCAA B cut times. Huber smashed his own school record by .47 seconds, set in November of this year and posted the 22nd fastest time in the nation.
Alex Norcini also picked up an NCAA B cut on Thursday, finishing seventh in the 200-yard IM. The sophomore stopped the clock at 1:50.84, two tenths off his own school record set last season.
Huber and Norcni teamed with Dan Sulkowski and Paul Tobin to take sixth in the 200-yard medley relay, posting a time of 1:30.79.
Day two of the four-day SSC Championships begin Friday, February 22 with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
