INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 27, 2019) – For the first time in Rollins men's swimming history, the Tars will have multiple competitors at the NCAA Division II National Championship as Christian Huber and Alex Norcini were announced as qualifiers on Wednesday.
Sophomore standout Norcini is making a return trip to the national championship and will once again swim four events. Last season in Charlotte, his busy program was highlighted with a 17th place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle. He joins Kamel Tejeda as the only Rollins swimmers to qualify for the national championship consecutive seasons. Tejeda has the only points in Tars history at nationals, taking 11th in the 2009 200-yard freestyle.
Norcini enters the 400-yard IM ranked 21st with a school record time of 3:55.34. He's 37th in the 200-yard IM with a qualifying time of 1:50.84. The Liliburn, Georgia native is ranked 37th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:34.52) and 36th in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:03.88).
Huber is one of very few freshman to be ranked high in multiple events. The Sindelfingen, Germany native is 18th in the 100-yard freestyle (44.25) and is coming off a third-place finish in the event at the Sunshine State Conference Championship. He is 20th in the 50-yard freestyle (20.13) and 40th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.93).
The Tars duo joins Rollins women's swimmers Beatriz Olivieri and Sydney Willis as qualifiers from Winter Park.
The 2019 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 13-16 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
