Tars Kick-Off 2018 Slate Against Division I Stetson

MATCH-UP:
No. 16 Rollins College at Stetson University

WHEN | WHERE:
Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 | 10:00am | Mandy Stoll Tennis Center - Deland, Florida

SET UP:
This is the Tars' first appearance on the clay since late October when No. 16 Rollins hosted the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational to close their fall campaign. They will be on the road traveling to Deland, Florida this Saturday to face the Division I Stetson University Hatters. The Tars are set to climb the ITA Division II National Team Rankings as they begin their spring season.

TRACKING THE TARS:
Standing at fifteen players strong, the Rollins Tars have a bevy of experience, and new faces heading into the spring season. Nationally-ranked player Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz, currently sitting at No. 19 in the ITA polls, is set to clean up in both singles and doubles play. A transfer from Tennessee Tech, the Villaneuva de la Cañada, Spain native went 18-5 in singles play and 10-5 in doubles action last year, finishing 9-0 in Ohio Valley conference singles.  Newcomer Nicolo De Fraia and returning All-SSC competitors Sami Kirberg and Cody Gubin will look to solidify a deep singles rotation.

Nicolas Ruiz and De Fraia partnered to capture the Men's Doubles Flight A championship at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational, last Fall.  The team is ranked No. 8 in the South Region in doubles.

TRACKING THE HATTERS:
Stetson is coming off of a 7-0 win over Palm Beach Atlantic in late January. The Hatters won each singles set and doubles match in dominating fashion, not dropping a set. Leading the pack was sophomore Colter Decoste with a sixth position singles win and a first position doubles win.  Angus Bradshaw controlled play in the number one singles spot, winning his contest 6-1, 6-2. Antoine Sanchez, a freshman from Sarasota, Florida also picked up his first dual match win to close out the afternoon.

UP NEXT:
Rollins will stay on the road next Wednesday when they travel to St. Augustine to face No. 11 Flagler in an early season, high profile, match.
