DELAND, Fla. (February 3, 2018) – The Tars could not keep up with Division I Stetson in their 2018 season opener. Rollins traveled to Deland, and battled the Hatters, but were ultimately not able to overcome an early doubles deficit, falling 6-1.
The Hatters took all three doubles matches to earn the lone doubles point. Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo Nicolas battled in the first position, but fell 6-3. Atakan Gezer and Frederick Danielson were locked in a battle, down only 5-4 in the third position, when the doubles point was decided.
Rollins dropped the first four singles decisions, deciding the match. But the Tars continued to fight. In the number one spot De Fraia captured the Tars' lone win. The Cagliari, Italy native took the first set 7-5, dropped the second set, but would hold onto win in a decisive third set.
The Tars will now turn their attention to No. 11 Flagler, Rollins will make the trip to St. Augustine for the top-20 match up, on Wednesday, February 7; first serve is at 2:30 p.m.
