ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (February 22, 2018) – The Rollins men's tennis team captured their first victory of the year in dominating fashion, winning 8-1.  The No. 14 Tars improve to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in Sunshine State Conference play, while the Tritons fall to 0-2, and 1-1 in SSC action. 

Rollins took two of the three doubles matches, to jump out to a 2-1 lead.  The South Region's eighth ranked double pair of Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo de Nicolas-Ruiz led off the match with a first position win, their second victory of the season.  Atakan Gezer and Ziad Melhaoui picked up the second win in the third position. 

Rollins clinched the win by sweeping singles play.  De Fraia picked up his second win of the day, and remained unbeaten on the year, sailing home in the first singles spot.  Nicolas-Ruiz, ranked No. 19 in singles play by the ITA, picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win in the second position.  Melhaoui recovered from a first set loss to take a three set victory, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5.  Gezer cruised in the fourth spot, winning 6-1, 6-1.  Salvadore Bolanos and Frederick Danielson each picked their first singles wins in the Blue and Gold, taking the fifth and sixth matches 6-0, 6-0. 

Rollins will return to the court quickly, as they face defending National Champions and top-ranked West Florida tomorrow, Friday, February 23, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.  First serve is set for 6 p.m.
