WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 25, 2018) – Rollins closed a busy week with a decisive win over Midwest Region foe Davenport on Sunday. With the win the Tars improve to 2-4 on the year, while the Panthers fall for the first time, and move to 3-1.
Rollins took two doubles matches to jump out to an early lead. The No. 8 team in the South Region of Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz led off the match with a convincing 8-4 win in the first position. Freshman Frederick Danielson and senior Guilherme Dumit teamed up for the first time to capture the Tars second doubles win, 8-5 in the third spot.
Sami Kirberg, who is ranked No. 17 in South Region in singles play, picked up the Tars' first singles win. The Fort Lauderdale native sailed home with a 6-3, 6-1, second position win. Nicolas-Ruiz, who is ranked the No. 19 singles player in the country, kept Rollins' momentum going, taking the third court match 6-3, 6-3. Danielson tallied his second win of the day to clinch the team victory, defeating Michael Digby in the sixth position 6-1, 6-4. Francesco Racanelli added to the win with a straight set victory in the fourth position. De Fraia also tallied a win for Rollins. The junior transfer remains undefeated on the season.
Rollins next opponent will be the Division I Furman Paladins, who will make the trip to Winter Park on Sunday, February 4, at 11 a.m.
