MELBOURNE, Fla. (February 26, 2018) – Nicolo De Fraia has been named the Sunshine State Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his efforts over the Tars' three matches last week. This is the first Player of the Week Award for the junior transfer. League officials announced the honor Monday.
De Fraia did not lose a match all week, going a perfect 3-0 in doubles play, with partner Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz, and 3-0 in singles action, all results came out of the number one position. The Cagliari, Italy native did not lose a set on the week.
Rollins started the week by earning their first win, dominating SSC foe Eckerd 8-1. De Fraia and Nicolas-Ruiz cruised home in doubles play, winning 8-1, while in singles play the junior made easy work of Alasdair Knox, 6-2, 6-3. In their second match of the week the Tars gave No. 1 West Florida all they could handle, falling 5-4 to the Argos. The duo of De Fraia and Nicolas-Ruiz were again triumphant in the top spot, winning 8-5. Then in singles play De Fraia downed the No. 7 singles player in the country Serdar Bojadjiev in straight sets 6-2, 7-5. In the week's finale the doubles pair again cruised to victory, 8-4, over the top team from previously unbeaten Davenport, while in singles play De Fraia registered a 6-3, 6-4 win.
On the year De Fraia is 6-0 in singles play, all out of the number one position, and he has defeated three nationally ranked opponents. In doubles action he and Nicolas-Ruiz have compiled a 4-2 mark in the top spot.
The Tars will return to the court on Sunday, March 4, when they play host to the Division I Furman Paladins. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
