Rollins Upset by Rattlers in Vegas

No. 14 Rollins – 4
No. 23 St. Mary's (Tex) – 5 

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 14, 2018) – The Tars could not avoid the upset in their third match in Las Vegas, falling to St. Mary's 5-4.  With the loss Rollins falls to 5-7 on the year, while the Rattlers improve to 9-3 in 2018. 

The Tars could only take one doubles match to start play.  Frederick Danielson and Cody Gubin teamed up for the first time this season, and won a hard fought third court match.  The pair defeated Luis Bonilla and Alex Gee 9-8 (7-5). 

Atakan Gezer won the first singles match for the Tars out of the fourth spot.  The freshman took down Alex Gee in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.  Frederick Danielson took a second set tiebreak to win the sixth position match in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).  Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz brought home the Tars fourth win, however, the Rattlers have already clinched the match.  Nicolas-Ruiz, the No. 19 player in the nation, downed Bojan Popovic in a second set tiebreaker 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to complete the scoring. 

The Tars will close their Las Vegas schedule by facing off against Hawaii Hilo tomorrow, March 15.  First serve against the Vulcans is set for 12 p.m.
