TEMPE, Ariz. (March 28, 2018) – The Tars reentered the ITA National Rankings in the latest poll, coming in at No. 40, it was announced Tuesday. Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz continue to represent the Tars in the singles rankings, while the two also combine to form one of the nation's top doubles partnerships.
The Tars are 6-9 on the year, with all nine losses coming against either Division I opponents, or teams ranked in the top-25 of Division II. The Tars have also picked up wins over No. 25 Concordia (N.Y.), No. 19 Hawaii Pacific, and No. 29 Southeastern Oklahoma State.
De Fraia, who slides to No. 32 in singles poll, holds a record of 9-5 on the year, playing exclusively in the first position for the Tars. The junior transfer has picked up four wins against nationally ranked opponents, and is 5-5 in his last 10 matches.
Nicolas-Ruiz, who jumped 19 spots to land at No. 35 in the newest rankings, is 10-5 on the year, seeing time in both the second and third courts. The Spain native holds a 6-2 record in the second position, and is 8-2 in his last 10 singles contests.
De Fraia and Nicolas-Ruiz form the Tars top double team, going 8-5 in the top position on the year. The two jumped one spot, from No. 8 to No. 7 in the most recent polls.
The Tars continue their season later today, Wednesday, March 28, with a trip to Embry-Riddle. The Eagles slid from No. 8 to No. 13 in the poll. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
