De Fraia Climbs Singles Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. (April 4, 2018) – The Rollins men's tennis team slid following a hard fought loss to then No. 13 Embry-Riddle.  The Tars went from No. 40 down to No. 49.  Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz still represent Rollins in the singles rankings, while the pair remain in the top-10 of the doubles poll.

The No. 49 Tars sit at 6-10 on the year, with all of their losses against Division I foes or teams ranked in the top-25 of Division II.  The Tars are currently on a two game losing streak, falling to then No. 1 Barry and the then No. 13 Eagles in their last two contests.

Nicolo De Fraia moves up to No. 22, jumping 10 spots in the poll.  The junior recovered from a first set tiebreaker loss against No. 50 Juan Ortiz Couder of Embry-Riddle, to capture the top court win for Rollins.  On the year De Fraia is 10-5, and 5-2 against national ranked opponents. 

Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz falls to No. 65 in the new rankings.  The junior fell in the second position match against the Eagles.  On the year Nicolas-Ruiz has earned a 10-6 mark, playing in each of the first three positions.  He is 2-2 against nationally ranked foes, and 7-3 in his last 10 matches. 

The pair combine to form the Tars top doubles team.  They drop three spots in the lastest rankings, coming in at No. 10, following an 8-5 loss to the No. 2 in the country from Embry-Riddle.  On the year the duo is 8-6 in the number one doubles position, with a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents. 

The Tars season continues today when they travel to the newly minted top team in the country, the Lions of Saint Leo.  First serve from the Saint Leo Tennis Center is set for 3 p.m.
